What is the GreenEdge...

One of the core areas of GreenEdge Data™ is the want to have the most cost effective and efficient DC solution.

We have done this in 3 ways

  1. Incorporation of Best Practices
    • Cold Isle / Hot Isle Containment
    • Minimise foot Print
    • Reduce air speed – less energy to run the fans
    • Multiple circuits on key system

  2. Use of industry leading product
    • Stulz – Leading brand in airconditioning
    • Eaton – leading UPS supplier
    • FSI – leading Fire systems specialist
    • B & R – Leading Rack supplier

  3. Innovative Design
    • Unique Airflow Design
    • Functional layout
    • Segregation of utilities and Data Area
    • Incorporation of high security solutions

All of this adds up to greater efficiency and reduced ongoing cost.

How?

A “traditional” DC will use a ratio of 1 to 1 to maintain the environment around the rack. i.e. 3.5 kW consumed by the rack, 3.5 kW consumed to maintain the cooling & power environment.

GreenEdge Data™ solution

GED use 1:0.50 in our worst case scenario, average is 1:0.2

In the example below we compare a DC that consumes 2.00 MW

Example 1
Standard DC

Example 2
GED DC

IT power load of 2MW

IT power load of 2MW

With a PUE for a standard DC of 2

With a PUE for a GED IFAC of 1.2

Total power load from the power grid will be 4MW Power over head from IT load is 2MW Therefore 2MW = 2MWh

Total power load from the power grid will be 2.4MW Power over head from IT load is .4MW Therefore .4MW = .4MWh

1 day = 48MWh

1 day = 9.6MWh

1 month = 1440MWh

1 month = 288MWh

1 year = 17,280MWh

1 Year = 3,456MWh

Power saving = 17,280 - 3,456 = 13,824MWh difference

$ Saving = @ 12c per kWh this equates to a saving of $ 1,658,880.00

Carbon savings = @ 1.22kg, 13824MWh equates to 16,865 TONNES of CO2 Savings per year.
